Barbara Ward

Barbara Hawkins Ward, age 73, of 96 Hookers Gap Road, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at her home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a daughter of the late Mark and Jenny Henson Hawkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Ward. Barbara was a member of Highland Baptist Church and a 1981 graduate of Cecil's Business College. She is survived by two sons, Darrell Ward of Leicester, and Derrick Ward and his wife, Shannon, of Leicester; two daughters, Camilla Cole and her husband, Roger, of Weaverville, and Kim Ledford and her husband, Harold, of Leicester; three sisters, Viola Dean, Lela Porche, and Mary Lou Shook all of Leicester; one brother, Jack Hawkins of Candler; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Truman Revis and Preacher Clarence Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
