Beatrice Leatherwood

Canton – Beatrice Cope Leatherwood, 88, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Murphy Medical Nursing Home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Doyle and Laura Hoyle Cope. She was also preceded in death by her special friend, Bill Coman. Bea devoted 25 years to Haywood Regional Medical Center as a nurse. She was passionate about providing care in the ICU and emergency room. Bea was a member of Canton Central United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Penny Coman Penland and husband, Charles, of Hayesville and Vickie Coman Faggart of Canton; a sister, Shirley Henson of Sharpsburg, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Terri Hamilton and husband, Brad, Matthew Raxter and wife, Tricia, Mark Raxter and wife, Anna, Laurie Shook and husband, Jason, Amy Trout, Will Penland and wife, Bethany, Jill Baxter and husband, Miguel. She was lovingly known by her grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren as Momma Bea, Bobbie Bea, and Bea Bobbie. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Bryan Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Haywood County Rescue Squad-Canton, P.O. Box 1275, Canton, NC 28716.
