Beatrice Sutton

Waynesville - Beatrice Mae Messer Sutton, 90, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at The Homestead after spending the last few years being cared for by the special staff at Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the wonderful people of both facilities.

Bea was born in Haywood County on August 6, 1927, to the late Bob and Gaye Messer. In addition to her parents, Bea was preceded in death by a brother, Hardy Carver; a grandson, Travis Martin Sutton, and the father of her children, R.C. Sutton. She loved spending time with her family, attending church and enjoying local music. After her retirement from Waynesville Middle School, she became a foster grandparent because she loved children so much.

Bea is survived by two sons, David J. Sutton and his wife, Rosemary, of Waynesville and Melvin Sutton of Autaugaville, AL and Peggy Sutton of Florence, AL; one daughter, Carolyn Boyer and her husband, Charlie, of Fines Creek; four grandchildren, Chris Sutton, Melanie Snare, Heath Sutton, and Rachel Aday; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family extends a special thanks to Sheri Heatherly, Lucy James, and Edna Lentz for their continued support and care of Bea and also to the pallbearers; Chris Sutton, Heath Sutton, Eli Aday, Charles Putnam, Bennie Morrow and Burl Sutton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Sheridan and Elder Bryan Myers officiating. The burial will follow at Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
