Becky Edwards

Haywood County-"Becky" Rebecca Sue Wilkey Edwards, age 80, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 24, 2007 at the Brian Center. A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late J. Gus and Hazel Mitchell Wilkey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Coleman Edwards who died in 1967; two daughters, Mary Ruth Edwards and Patsy Jean Edwards; a granddaughter, Amanda Edwards; two great-granddaughters, Brooke Messer and Harlie Ferguson; a great-grandson, Justin Camp; several brothers and sisters and a son-in-law, Rudy Collette. Becky was employed by Haywood County Hospital as an LPN for 20 years retiring in 1989. She became a member of the Barberville Baptist Church in 1967. She was a member of the LPN Association and was a volunteer for the Red Cross. She loved working in her flower garden and had a special love for her grandchildren. Becky was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed NASCAR racing. She is survived by daughters, Louise Collette of Athens, AL, Marie Messer and her husband, James of Mt. Holly and Sara Jane Buckner and her husband, Mike of Canton; sons, Harry Edwards and his wife, Brenda of Waynesville, Jim Edwards and his wife, Sharon of Clyde, Bruce Edwards of Waynesville, Roger Edwards of Maggie Valley; sisters, Frances Whitted, Alice Morgan and Bobbie Johnson all of Asheville; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend G.W. Jameson, Reverend Mark Caldwell, Reverend Jim Messer and Reverend Dorval Messer officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and, at other times, at the residence. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
