Waynesville, William Beecher Phillips, 67, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Elbert and Ota Sutton Phillips and was also preceded in death by a sister, Nora Ball, a brother, Burton Phillips, and brother-in-law, Tom Rogers. Beecher held the rank of Lieutenant, retiring in 2009 after 22 years of service from the Haywood County Sheriff's Office. He was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church and was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed logging, fishing and camping. Beecher is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ann Caldwell Phillips; three sisters, Corena Henline (Fred) of Clyde, Colene Roger of Waynesville and Lorena Smathers (Keith) of Canton; six brothers, Elmer Phillips (Betty) and Kelly Phillips of Tennessee, Ernest Phillips (Frances) and Jack Phillips (Carol), of Waynesville, Zeb Phillips (Mary Emma) of Burnsville and Mitchell Phillips (Suzie) of Clyde; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Dellwood Baptist Church with Reverend Bobby Rogers, Reverend Barry Willett, Reverend Shawn Porter and Reverend Tim Lolley officiating. Burial will follow at White Oak Baptist Church Cemetery with the Haywood County Sheriff's Office serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Parris, Mark Williams, Doug Carpenter, Bryan Sizemore, Jamie Wood, Jeff and Johnathan Sutton and Opie Williams. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church. A special "Thank You" to Donna and Eddie Henson, Haywood County Sheriff's Office, Reverend Bobby Rogers, Reverend Barry Willett, Reverend Shawn Porter, Dennis Franklin and Pam Pressley .
