Waynesville-Benjamin Hutaff Blake, Sr., 85, of 284 Vista Road, died on May 22, 2013 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. Ben was born to Benjamin and Pearl Prevatte Blake on December 26, 1927. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, James David Blake. He was a member of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church, served in the US Navy 1951–1955, was past Master of St. Alban's Lodge 1984, Secretary of St. Alban's 1985–2002, District Deputy Grand Master of 14th Masonic District 1985–1987, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Ben also received KCCH in the Scottish Rite, was member of Sudan Shrine Temple, and member and past Treasurer of Robeson County Shrine Club. Ben is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lillian Spivey Blake, of the home; his children, Benjamin Hutaff Blake, Jr. of Waynesville, NC, Sallie Blake Goins and husband, Todd, of Waynesville, NC; one brother, William T. Blake of Lumberton, NC, one sister, Marie Sinclair, of Laurinburg, NC, and four grandchildren, Benjamin Blake of Denver, Colorado, Allyson Blake of Mt. Ulla NC, Kellie Goins, and Blake Goins of Waynesville, NC. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Chestnut Street United Methodist Church in Lumberton, NC with the Reverend Steve Little and Reverend Stan Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial gifts be made to The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565 or Care Partners Hospice Foundation, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
