Berlin Haynes

Waynesville, Berlin Coman Haynes, age 100, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at McCracken Rest Home. A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Posey Bruce and Mary Elizabeth Frisbee Haynes. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Finey Sutton and Estie Kirkpatrick; four brothers, Henry, Posey, Furman, and Lawson Haynes; and half brother, John Haynes. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a retired nurses assistant and was employed by the VA Hospital in Salisbury. He enjoyed the outdoors, working in his garden, and walking. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Allie Goforth Haynes; sister-in-laws, Pearl Payne of Marion, NC and Geneva Elliott of Tennessee; brother-in-laws, Albert Goforth of Florida and Robert Goforth of Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2009 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Captain Craig Gontner officiating. Burial will be at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O.
