Canton, Berlyn Cogburn Murray, age 86, of Chinquapin Road, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Smoky Mountain Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Beulah Mae Chambers Cogburn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Murray, who died in 1985, and a sister, Evelyn Cogburn. Berlyn was employed at Dixon's Little Boy Drive-in for fifteen years and later worked for seven years at the Waynesville Towers. She was a foster parent for 135 children and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, working puzzles, and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves. She was a member of Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday-School teacher and class treasurer. She is survived by one daughter, Brenda W. Edwards and her husband, Harry, of Waynesville; three sons, Dennie Murray and his wife, Betty, of Lake Chatuge, Gerald Murray and Brad Phillips, both of Canton; two brothers, Pete Cogburn and Hubert "Tootsie" of Canton; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend Jake Cagle, Reverend Jeff Heatherly, and Reverend Jimmy Moore officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
