Waynesville - Bernard Hugh Singleton, age 76, of Liner Street died Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at John F. Keever Solace Center in Asheville. He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the son of the late Claude and Virlee Chambers Singleton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jean Holland Singleton who died in 2006; a son, James Roy Singleton; and a sister, Iris Thompson. He retired from Champion International with 39 years of service and was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church. Bernard loved fishing, coon hunting, and gathering Ginseng. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Korea. He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Singleton of Waynesville; two sons, Jeffrey Singleton of Waynesville and Timothy Singleton and his wife, Teresa, of Simpsonville, SC; a sister, Novella Singleton of Canton; a brother, Charles Singleton and his wife, Willene, of Canton; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Winfred Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Shane Singleton, Jonathan Cagle, Steve Thompson, Glen Brister, Chris Sutton, and Dylan Packer In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverside Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2171 Lake Logan Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
