Bertha Berrong

Bertha Annie Stevenson Berrong, age 94, of Phillipsville Loop died December 5, 2006, at Autumn Care Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County and the daughter of the late James and Flora Parton Stevenson. She was preceded in death by her husband, John O. Berrong who died in 1990 and two brothers, Troy and Homer Stevenson. She was a member of West Canton Baptist Church and retired from American Enka Corp. with 27 years of service. Bertha loved gardening and working in her flowers. She had a special place in her heart for her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Prince and her husband, Homer, of Louisville, TN; a son, John H. Berrong and his wife, Theresa, of Canton; a sister, Bonnie Glance and her husband, Carroll, of Crabtree; five grandchildren, Laura Berrong, Tracy DeMar, Rebecca Frazier, and Mike and Doug Prince; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2006, at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend W. O. Henson, Reverend Wallace Britt, and Reverend Mike Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Haywood County Christian Ministry, 150 Branner Avenue, Waynesville, NC 28786 or to West Canton Baptist Church Sound System Fund, 75 Lowe Street, Canton, NC 28716. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Autumn Care Nursing Home for their love and care.
