Bertha Hooper

Bertha O'Neil Hooper, age 93, died on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Toss and Ollie Howell O'Neil. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Candler Hooper; a daughter, Dorothy "Dot" H. Rogers; a son, Don Hooper; and 11 brothers and sisters. Bertha worked at American Enka, was a homemaker, and a member of East Fork Baptist Church. She is survived by two grandchildren, Randy Pope and his wife Ann, of Canton, and Donna Parton and her husband, Jimmy, of Waynesville; three great-grandchildren, Josh and Jordan Parton, and Anna Carroll Pope. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2012, at East Fork Baptist Church with the Reverend Greg Cullen officiating. Burial will follow at Gwyn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Silver Bluff Employee Crisis Assistance Program, 100 Silver Bluff Drive, Canton NC 28716.
