Bertie Wilde

Celebrating Bertie's 105 years!!! Canton – Bertie Battles Wilde, age 105 entered into heaven on Friday, May 24, 2013, as the angels summoned her from her sleep. A native of Macon County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Josephine McDowell Battles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W. G. "Shorty" Wilde, who died in 1977; a daughter, Mildred Taylor; and a son, Bobby Wilde; five sisters, Nell Norton, Nan Waldroup, Ethel York, Bernice McCurry, and Inez Robinson; and one brother, Frank Battles. Bertie enjoyed a long healthy life and spent only the last few months in Silver Bluff Village. She enjoyed living with her daughter, Janice and Bud Liner, for many years. She loved all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as she wrote poems about their lives.. She had a remarkable memory and enjoyed sharing her stories and songs with others. Her grandchildren enjoyed all of her stories about growing up in the early 1900's. She proved that you never had to act your age or look it either. Bertie frequently entertained her nurses with her little songs. She would put on her Clinique and drink her Dr. Pepper each day. Bertie was a wonderful treasure and such a blessing to her family. She loved the Lord and gave him the glory and praise for her long healthy life. She is survived by one son, Richard Wilde (Carmen) of Clyde; two daughters, Janice Liner (Bud) of Canton, and Jean Robinson of Clyde; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Two of her grandchildren, Barry Byrd of Florida and Sullivan Grace Rhymer, daughter of Jason and Valerie Rhymer, both share the same birthday as Bertie. A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Milton Hollifield officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons: Darrin Liner, Dan Liner, Ronnie Clark, Jason Rhymer, Tim Wilde, Jordan Liner, Logan Clark, Cody Liner and Colt Wilde.
