Bessie Fleming

Waynesville, Bessie Severa Comer Fleming, age 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 8, 2021.

A native of Warren County, she was a daughter of the late W.T. and Yvonne Bishop Comer.  In addition to her parents, Bessie was also proceeded in death by one son, Kelly Fleming.  For over 50 years, Bessie and then husband, Ralph, owned and operated Flemings Plumbing & Heating.  She was a faithful member at New Hope Church of God where she volunteered to cook, clean and organize events throughout the years.  When the doors were open, Bessie was there to serve the Lord.  She was also an exceptional seamstress, leaving her family a legacy of beautiful, crocheted afghans and blankets.

During their 50 years of marriage, Bessie and Ralph raised three daughters, Gwen Ledbetter, and her husband, William, of Waynesville, Pam Hensley, and her husband, David, of Waynesville, and Marie Harris, and her husband, Tom, of Durham; a daughter-in-law, Carrie Fleming, of Waynesville; two sons, Todd Fleming, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Waynesville and Steven Fleming, and his wife, Jane, of Old Fort, NC.  Bessie is survived by many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; two sisters, Rosa McVey, and her husband, David, of Graham, NC and Barbara Collier, and her husband, Rev. Robert Collier of Creedmoor, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville with Reverend Bobby Haney officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.  A graveside committal service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington, NC with Reverend Robert Collier officiating.  Serving as pallbearers for Bessie’s service will be Matt Crawford, Sam Newsome, Jeremy Bolden, Dylan Williams, Logan Williams, Walker Bolden, and Jayden Bolden and honorary pallbearers, Allen Crawford and Cameron Newsome.

The care of Ms. Fleming has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
