Waynesville-Bessie A. Miller, age 89, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 14, 2007 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel B. and Lucy Brooks Arrington. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, S. Henry Miller who died in 2000; a son, James H. Hiller; a son-in-law, Harold Bryson; one sister, Beulah Sparks; and five brothers, Perry, Bill, Robert, Ted, and James Arrington. She was a member of Barberville Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved quilting, sewing, bird watching, and working in her flower garden. She will be remembered as a wonderfully witty, fun, and compassionate person. She is survived by two daughters, Jean M. Briggs and Barbara M. Bryson, both of Waynesville; a son-in-law, Bruce B. Briggs, of Mars Hill; three sisters, Blanche Anders of Cartersville, GA, and Mildred Sease and Susie A. Beck and her husband, Charles, all of Waynesville; a special sister-in-law, Edna Arrington; one brother, Oliver Arrington, of Burkeville, VA; six grandchildren, Susan Boutwell, Tim Bryson, Lisa Cleaveland, Jamie Miller, Chad Miller, and Ashley Briggs; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2007 in the Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum Chapel with Reverend G.W. Jameson officiating. Burial will follow in the mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the chapel. The family would like to acknowledge the loving care given by Mary Owenby Arrington, Peggy and Raven Morris, Viola Kluttz, Ruby Evans; Hospice workers, Meridee Anderson, Viv Land, and Norma Lindsey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
