Bessie Penland

Bessie Lee Eplee Penland, age 107, died Sunday, August 21, 2005 at Hominy Valley Retirement Center. She was a native of Buncombe County and the daughter of the late Calvin and Annie Lewis Eplee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Penland who died in 1984 and a daughter, Ruth Miller. She was a homemaker and attended Hominy Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters Annie Warren and Sadie Wilson both of Candler and Margaret Williams of Newport News, VA.; a son, Frank Warren of Candler; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at Hominy Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Trey Doyle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Memorials may be made to Hominy Baptist Church Building Fund, 135 Candler School Road, Candler, NC 28715 or to Hominy Valley Retirement Center, P. O. Box 1810, Candler, NC 28715. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
