Bessie H. Fish

Bessie H. Fish, age 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, Bessie was born on August 3, 1928, to the late Benjamin and Mary Ellen "Ellie" Revis Blaylock.

Bessie was a devoted homemaker who found joy in cooking delicious meals, raising her six boys, and tending to her garden. She cherished the time spent with her church family at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, enjoying many trips and outings together. Her greatest delight was babysitting her beloved grandchildren.

Bessie was a loving and supportive presence in the lives of her family and friends. Her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, James Grady Fish (2001); her sons, Benny Carroll Fish (1999), James Ray Fish (2000), and Gary Eugene Fish (2013); as well as three sisters and a brother.

She is survived by her three sons, Jerry Fish (Reva), Donald Fish (Paula), and Jeff Fish (Michele), all of Canton; her brother, Buck Blaylock of Clyde; six grandsons, five granddaughters, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A funeral service to honor Bessie's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Pastor Perry Brindley will be officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are: Shane Fish, Stephen Fish, Donnie Ray Fish, Donald James Fish, Kevin Fish, and Simon Fish.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Fish to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 261 Dix Creek Road, Canton, NC 28716.

Bessie will be remembered for her loving spirit and the many lives she touched throughout her long and fulfilling life.

The care of Mrs. Fish has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
