Betty Sue Hipps Brookshire, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Mission Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Jeter Charles and Victoria Suttles Hipps. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Reeves Hipps and a sister, Doris Mann. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Canton. Betty was a loving mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her patient and caring nature. She was devoted to her family and especially adored her grandchildren and her dog, George. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joe Brookshire; two daughters, Donna Brookshire and Becky Trantham and her husband, Sam, all of Canton; a sister, Ruth Benfield of Florida; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Brookshire and his wife, Betty, of Canton; five grandchildren, Karen Salyers, Pamela Floyd, Emily Powell, Matthew Reid, and Katie Ballard and her husband, Jason; five great-grandchildren, Will McCombs, Cainan and Triston Register, and Haylee and Hunter Floyd; four step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Erin Weaver and Reverend Clay Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service.
