Canton, Betty Burgess Betty Holcombe Burgess (Maw), of Canton went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 18, 2004 after a long illness. She was born on August 31, 1927 in Haywood County and was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Burgess, mother Rachael Holcombe, brother Joe Holcombe, beloved grandson Travis Sorrells, great grandson Jaden Burgess and son-in-law Jerry Jefferson. She leaves behind seven children, her son and caregiver, Tommy Burgess of the home, son Phil Burgess and his wife Karen of Canton, daughters Linda Sorrells and her husband Ronnie of Hazelwood, Rita Taylor and her husband Mike and Judy Taylor and her husband David all of Candler, Sandy Inman and her husband Ray of Canton and Brenda Jefferson of Rogersville, TN, a brother Bill Holcombe and his wife Irene of Greenville, SC, sisters Mae Plemmons and Pat Young and her husband Charles of Greer, SC, special caregiver Tina Woody of Canton, eleven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a host of children and grandchildren she loved as her own. She touched the life of everyone she came in contact with and will be missed by all that knew her. She was a member of the High Street Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 20th at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with Reverend Christopher Willett officiating. At other times the family will be at 29 Miller Street in Canton. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Center Hospice at 560 Leroy George Drive in Clyde, NC 28721.
