Waynesville, Betty Brown Cabe, age 81, passed away Monday, September 12, 2011 at her daughters' residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late George Andrew Brown, Jr. and Beatrice Jarrett Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Eugene Cabe; and a grandson, Robert Perry Campbell, Jr. Betty was a 1947 graduate of Waynesville Township High School. She attended Western Carolina University and received her Bachelors of Social Science Degree in 1951 and a Master's Degree in Education in 1957. Betty was a former educator in Haywood County Public Schools and retired as an Administrative Coordinator with Southwestern Child Development. She was implemental in developing programs for children with special needs and disabilities in Western North Carolina. Betty was a past member of the Beta Sigma Phi service society. She was an avid gardener, reader, speech writer, historian and a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. She is survived by two daughters, Vivian Cabe Lollar and her husband, Charles, of Norfolk Virginia; Patrice Cabe Campbell and her husband, Robert, of Waynesville; brother, Dr. George Wallace Brown of Waynesville and four grandchildren, Charles Malcolm Lollar, Jr, Christina Elizabeth Lollar, Matthew Jarrett Lollar and Madeline Beatrice Campbell. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 17, 2011 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Sanford L. Giles, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
