Canton – Betty Joe "Beeg” Rathbone Coleman, 87, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at her residence.

Beeg was a daughter of the late Cromer and Madge Parham Rathbone.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Rathbone; and a sister, Phyllis Ann Ward. Beeg was a member of Canton Wesleyan Church and loved to read and help people in need whether at church or a family member.  She loved to travel with friends and went on many adventures with Christian Tours.  Beeg was a “Mission Belle” attending the Mission School of Nursing and Haywood Community College.  She was a registered nurse and worked for Haywood County after retirement.

She is survived by a daughter, Kim Queen (Michael) of Canton; two sisters, Karen Rathbone Wines of Canton and Joanne Wilson of Wake Forest; one brother, Kevin Rathbone (Sherry) of Canton; one grandson, Michael B. Queen and his fiancé, Amanda Chambers; two great-grandchildren, Kristen and McKain Queen; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Canton Wesleyan Church with Reverend David Vos and Reverend Shawn Ward officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canton Wesleyan Church, 149 Newfound Street, Canton, NC 28716 or to FUR of WNC, P.O. Box 1352, Waynesville, NC  28786.
