Betty Cooke

January 18, 1922 — June 17, 2008

Betty Cogburn Cooke, age 86, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at her residence. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Parley and Essie Mason Cogburn. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Jay Eugene Cook, who died in 2005; two infant sons, Ronald Porter and J.E. Cooke and one sister, Martha Kuykendall. Betty worked as the manager of Bethel School Cafeteria for 37 years where she retired in 1990. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church since 1932 and she enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, cooking and was famous for her homemade biscuits. She was chairperson for the Bethel Community Cemetery Committee. Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by one son, Sam Cooke and his wife, Sherry, of Canton; one daughter, Linda Caldwell and her husband, Terry, of Waynesville; three sisters, Parlene "Shang" Cogburn, Elizabeth Wyatt and Johnnie Kinsland all of Canton; one granddaughter, Amity Cooke and two great-grandchildren, Makayla and Jordan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Roy Kilby officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
