Canton – Betty Emerson Daves, age 80, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2015 at Autumn Care Nursing Home in Waynesville. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Neppie Wilson Emerson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, J. B. and Roy Emerson. Betty enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially working in her garden and flowers. She was known for her "green thumb." One of her other enjoyments was gospel music, which she loved listening to and singing. Betty will be remembered for her strong and dedicated work ethic, delicious cooking, where her homemade biscuits were one of her family's favorites, and the deep love for her family and Lord and Savior. Betty is survived by two daughters, Karen Yarborough and her husband, Bill, of Bethel, and Lisa Mumpower and her husband, Carl, of Asheville; two sons, Keith Daves and his wife, Arlene, of Hickory, and Jason Daves and his wife, Marcy, of Arden; one sister, Martha Case of Canton; nine grandchildren, Melody, Daniel and Darren Daves, Kristin Mabry, Katelyn Yarborough, Haleigh, Hannah, Allie and Darrah Daves; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held for her family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Memory Care of Asheville, 100 Far Horizons Lane, Asheville, NC 28803.
