Sylva—Isabelle Coward Ensley, age 85, of the Balsam Community, passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at Haywood Regional Medical Center. A native of Jackson County, she was a previous resident of Pasadena, Texas before returning to Jackson County. She was the daughter of the late George Benjamin and Nannie Phillips Coward. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Horace Ensley, who died in 1997, three brothers, and two sisters. Belle was a beloved aunt to all her nieces and nephews and thought of them as her own children. She also loved birds and made sure they were always fed at her home. She was a member of Balsam Baptist Church. She is survived by one sister, Kate Underwood, of Waynesville; several nieces and nephews; and many "grandchildren and great grandchildren." Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with Reverend Johnny Swanger officiating. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday prior to services at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Balsam Baptist Church, P.O. Box 280, Balsam, NC 28707.
