Betty Ford

Betty Smith Ford, age 79, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, September 7, 2009 surrounded by her family and friends. A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Nettie Davis Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Edward Ford, who died in 1982; a brother, James E. Smith; and an infant son, Roger Dale Ford. Betty was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church. The majority of Betty's life was devoted to her family as a homemaker. She is survived by two sons, Edward Ford (Dot) of Newport, TN and Paul Ford (Pat) of Waynesville; two daughters, Linda Gregory (Bob) and Carolyn Ford (Nick Scott), all of Waynesville; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and her special pet, Scooby. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Rogers, Reverend Jim Johnson and Larry Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow at Old Thickety Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Bob and Linda Gregory in Bethel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dellwood Baptist Church, 115 Hall Drive, Waynesville, NC 28785.
