Betty Holtzclaw

Canton- Betty Moore Holtzclaw, daughter of Volney Clinton Moore and Eunice Whitmire Moore was promoted to glory on Thursday, June 30, 2005. Betty was born July 7., 1911 in Transylvania County, NC and was married to Wesley F. Holtzclaw in1933 and he died October 1, 1981 in Haywood County. Betty has resided at Silver Bluff Nursing Home in Canton for the last 12 years. Betty was a graduate of Canton High School while living in the household of her sister Donnie Moore Reese and husband George Reese. She worked for a time at American Enka Corporation after high school. Betty was very active in the First Baptist Church of Canton along with her husband Wesley. She worked for many years for Winners Department Store in Canton and was involved in community projects, women's clubs and Home Demonstration Club. Betty is survived by the known living nephew: Ted N. Reese of Hendersonville, NC, Charles Duke of Grinnell, Iowa, Anthony Duke of Ankeny, Iowa and Farrell Moore of Brevard. Also known living nieces: Freddie Ruth Leistner, Euna Leigh Cantrell, Grace Lee of Brevard, Lois Roberson of Weaverville, NC, Edna Reid of Horse Shoe, NC, and Blanche Bakke of Maryland, and brother-in-laws, Lewis Duke of Grinnell, Iowa, and Robert W. Holtzclaw of Kingsport, TN. Betty will say good-by to her many friends and relatives at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2005 with a graveside service at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Dr. Jack B. Sammons officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Broyhill Baptist Children's Home, 111 Sneed Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
