Asheville, Betty Jean Bartlett Jarvis, age 86, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Brian Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Virgil Lusk and Nina Ruth Harrison Bartlett. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Jack Allison Jarvis, who died in 2011 and four siblings, Carolyn Langford, Virgil "Bobby" Bartlett, Jr., Jimmy Bartlett, and Mary Eleanor Bartlett. She was a graduate of Grace School and retired from J. C. Penny with 35-years service. Betty loved her family dearly and was a very devoted wife and mother. She was also a talented seamstress, loved to cook, and enjoyed traveling to Florida during the summers and was a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah J. Justice and her husband, Kevin, of Waynesville and Rebecca L. Whitley of Greenville, North Carolina; one sister, Josephine Bartlett of Leicester; two brothers, Bruce Bartlett of Leicester and Johnny Bartlett of Weaverville; one granddaughter, Allison Hester DeVore and her husband, Steven, of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend David Warren officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
