Betty Mcgaha

Waynesville, Betty Jewel McGaha, age 85, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Ellis Rufus and Rosa Lee Edwards Setzer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Richard McGaha April 6, 1997; several brothers and sisters, a son-in-law, Reverend Billy Stiles and a daughter-in-law, Phyllis McGaha. Betty was a cook with Haywood County Schools and retired in 1981 with 15 years of service. She was of the Baptist faith. Betty was a special lady, admired by all who knew her. She will especially be remembered for her delicious cooking, always making everyone's favorite dishes. Her vegetable garden was always plentiful during harvest times making canning and freezing one of her favorite things to do. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she always loved preparing a large feast for all her family to enjoy. A few of her other favorites were quilting and her joy of watching hummingbirds. Above all, her family was her greatest joy and blessing – she loved them all dearly! She is survived by two daughters, Brenda McGaha Stiles of Waynesville, NC; Thresa McGaha Ledford and her husband Lester of Maurepas, LA; one son, Harold McGaha of Hayesville, NC; one sister, Rose Morrow of Waynesville, NC; two brothers, Gene Setzer and his wife Dorothy of Waynesville, NC; E. R. Setzer and his wife Ann of Hazelwood, NC; 5 grandchildren: Keith Stiles, Pam McCall, Michele Robertson, Jennifer Caldwell and Scott Burchfield; 3 great-grandchildren: Adam Caldwell, Devon Robertson, Triston Robertson; 2 step-great-grandchildren: Brooklyn and Nicholas Joiner and many nieces and nephews and a special niece Vickie Page and her husband John and a special friend Judy Hardin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. Reverend Johnny Swanger and Reverend Jerry Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
