Betty Messer

June 3, 1940 — August 3, 2007

Clyde-Betty Louise Williams Messer, age 67, died unexpectedly on Friday, August 03, 2007. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late John and Christabell Gaddis Williams. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Townsend, Molly Williams and Marie Frady and three brothers, Jim Williams, Lloyd Williams and Bill Williams. She was a member of Burnette Cove Baptist Church and enjoyed spending quality time with her family. Betty loved camping and lake fishing with George, but most importantly, her heart was with her church. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, George P. Messer; one daughter, Vickie Conner of Haynes City, Fl; two sons, Rickey Conner of Clyde and Richard Conner and his wife, Tammy of Weaverville, NC; four stepsons, Phil Messer and his wife, Cathy of Spartanburg, SC, Avery Messer and his wife, Beverly of Myrtle Beach, SC, Eddie Messer and his fiancé, Sharon of Candler and Matthew Messer of Waynesville; four half sisters, Geraldine Martin of Baltimore, MD, Cathy White and Lela Stevenson, both of Bedford, VA, Pam Overstreet of Lynchburg, VA; a half brother, Johnny Overstreet, VA; sixteen grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and eight step grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Harry Worley, Reverend Jerry Nelson and Reverend Bo Cagle officiating. Burial will follow at Fulbright Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Dewayne Conner, Kris Hensley, Jason Christopher, Eddie Messer, Dustin Sanders and Phil Messer.
