Waynesville, Betty June McCracken Ray, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Trinity View Assisted Living in Arden, NC.
June was a native of Haywood County, she was born on June 10, 1929 to the late Carey Milas McCracken and Marie Fulbright McCracken. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Massie Ray, who passed away in 2009; a sister, Addie Karen Jones and a brother-in-law, Terry McGill. June’s roots reach back as far as the Revolutionary War, and was a member of Daughter of American Colonists. June was employed by Waynesville First Methodist Weekday Kindergarten for 12 years, and Junaluska School Kindergarten for 10 years.
June was a member of Francis Cove United Methodist Church. In her younger days, she became a member of Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Waynesville First Methodist, and Pine Grove Methodist. She always enjoyed socializing with her neighbors at Fines Creek.
She is survived by a daughter, Rosalyn (Roddy) Marie Ray and husband, Jay Langford; of Waynesville; a son, Thomas Kiplen “Kip” Ray; a sister, Katherine McGill of Lowden, TN; a brother-in-law, Terry Jones of Lake Junaluska; two nephews, Scott Jones, of Lake Junaluska and Kevin Jones, of Dallas, Texas; niece, Rene McGill Schultz, Rebecca McGill Willis, and Amy McGill Ross, all of Lowden, Tennessee and two grandchildren, Kip Ray, of Waynesville and Megan Ray Wilhelm (Andy), great-grandchildren Claire E. and Charles A. Wilhelm, all of Belmont, North Carolina.
