Betty Smith

Waynesville, Betty Roberta Sutton Smith, age 67, went home to be with the Lord and her beloved "Snuffy," surrounded by her family and friends at her residence, on Thursday, May 8, 2008 after a short illness caused by a brain tumor. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of Geneva Rich Sutton of Waynesville and the late Johnny Alvin Sutton. In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth "Snuffy" Smith, who died on June 7, 2006. She retired from Dayco Corporation in 1994 after 31 years service. For the past several years, she worked at Dollar General. Betty loved spending time with her family and friends, cooking, gardening, playing bingo and especially enjoyed collecting "knick-knacks." In addition to her mother, she is survived by one son, Kenneth "Bev" Smith, Jr. and his wife, Tammy, of Clyde; one daughter, Rebecca Rector and her husband, Rusty, of Candler; three sisters, Peggy Jones and her husband, John, and Barbara Inman, all of Waynesville, and Sally Brown of Florida; one brother, Joe Sutton and his wife, Glennie, of Waynesville; four grandchildren, Amanda Moss and her husband, Jeffrey, Russell Rector and his wife, Dylana, and Scott and Ben Smith; and one special granddaughter, Jennifer Derringer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2008 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ben Smith, John Jones, John Jaynes, Scott Smith, Jimmy Rogers, and Rex Wilson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday evening at the funeral home.
