Lake Junaluska-Betty Jo Brannon Shepard-age 68, of 245 Miami Drive, passed away peacefully at home with her family, Monday, May 24, 2004. She was born July 1st, 1935 in the Morning Star community of Canton in Haywood County, NC. Betty Jo was preceded in death by her father, Charles S. Brannon, Sr., and her mother Minnie Josephine Brannon, her brother Charles S. Brannon Jr., and her son Larry Dale Shepard. She was an active member of Crabtree United Methodist Church in Clyde, NC, an avid flower grower, bird lover, and volunteered much of her time to many local community interests and charities. She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Vance Rogers Shepard Sr., one daughter, Valerie Shepard Fields and her husband Charles of Kernersville, NC, 2 sons, Dr. Vance R. Shepard, Jr. of Oxford, CT and Thomas Lane Shepard and his wife Eva of Hendersonville, two sisters, Peggy B. West of Asheville Manor and Jean B. Stamey of Lake Junaluska, 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens in Clyde with Reverend Ned Martin and Reverend W. T. Medlin officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services of Canton prior to the graveside service.
