Betty Smith

March 16, 1939 — June 10, 2014

Waynesville, Betty Jane Smith, age 76, of 191 Forest View Drive, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Mission Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Austin and Edna Burchfield Morgan and was also preceded in death by one brother, Donald Morgan. She graduated from Waynesville Township High School, was employed at Northwestern Bank as Head Bookkeeper, and retired in 2006 from Anderson Automotive Group where she was Title and Tax Clerk. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville for 61 years and loved spending time with her family. She also loved listening to blue grass music. Betty is survived by a son, Samuel "Tim" Jones and his wife, Brandy Lynn of Jacksonville, North Carolina; sister, Mary Sue Morgan of Asheville; brother, Kenneth Earl Morgan of Waynesville; three grandchildren, Chelsie Pearl Jones, Corey Phillip Jones, and Coleman Josuha Jones; four great-grandchildren; and long-time true friend, Melvin "James" Allen. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Reverend Dr. Robert Prince, III officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
