Betty West

Waynesville, Betty Jane Wyatt West, age 72, 16 Slick Holler Road, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2014. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Randolph Wyatt and Helen Grasty Leatherwood. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her only son, Billy "Ernie" West and a sister, Wilma Lee Hannah. Betty was a former employee of Hemlock and Autumn Care Nursing Homes and a member of Riverside Baptist Church. Betty is survived by her husband of 57 years, Billy Ernest West; three daughters, Mary Helen Reece and husband, Johnny, Robin Rogers and husband, Bobby Carroll and Donna White, all of Waynesville; two sisters, Ann Medford, and Doris Jean Davis of Waynesville; two brothers, James William Messer, of Waynesville and Kenneth Wayne Leatherwood of Canton; seven grandchildren, Vanessa Chandler (Jason), Bobby "BJ" Rogers (Kelly), Scotty Rogers (Cassie), Marvin Crawford, Jr. (Tabitha), Levi Crawford, Jackson White, and Victoria Blevins; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Russ McLamb and Reverend Chan Chandler officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Marvin Crawford Sr., Janet and Anthony Leatherwood, Jeff Messer, Terry Davis and Doc Brown. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home and at other times, at the residence.
