Betty Wilson Ward

Betty Ward (nee Wilson), age 91 of Hendersonville, NC, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024.

Born and raised in Canton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Reece & Legia (nee Burnett) Wilson. She was a 1951 graduate of Canton High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from Blanton’s Business College in Asheville and worked as Executive Secretary to the Director of Purchasing at Champion Paper in Canton. She enjoyed reading and gardening, and she was an avid birdwatcher.

Betty is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Tanya L. Ward of Hendersonville; her daughter & son-in-law, Cynthia & Gene Dalessio of Alloway, NJ; and her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Dalessio of Alloway, NJ.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James C. “Hoot” Ward; and her sisters, Blanche Stamey and Cleo Towe.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The burial will take place at Bon-a-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elizabeth House or Four Seasons Hospice at the Four Seasons Foundation, 211 N. Main St., Hendersonville, NC, 28792.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wells Funeral Home of Canton.
