Beverly Marshall

October 3, 1938 — March 24, 2012

Clyde - Beverly Ann Brown Marshall, age 73, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, March 24, surrounded by her loving family. A native of Henderson County, she was the daughter of the late A. J. and Alma Ruth Henderson Brown. Brother, John S. Brown, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Richard E. Marshall; daughter, Cynthia Marshall of Pensacola, Florida; son Scott Marshall and wife, Alison; and two beloved grandchildren Amelia Louise and Hadley Ann of Salt Lake City, Utah; as well as her special aunt, Bonnie Butt of Essex, Maryland. Beverly was a graduate of Western Carolina University, earning Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Education degrees, and was a member of the Alpha Rho chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority. She later retired from Waynesville Middle School after a fulfilling career as a respected and dedicated language arts teacher. Beverly inspired thousands of students throughout her years as an educator and role model, and took great satisfaction in sharing her love of literature and the English language. After retirement, her passion for collecting Hallmark ornaments kept her busy as she and her husband traveled the country to collect Keepsakes, meet artists, and enjoy the hobby with fellow devotees. Beverly was also an avid and skilled gardener, cultivating bulbs, flowers, plants, and vegetables to sell at the Haywood County Farmer's Market. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 31, at 11:00 am at Clyde First Baptist Church, with Reverend Dr. David Phillips and Reverend James Parham officiating. The family will receive friends for a visitation afterward. Memorials may be made to MedWest-Haywood Homestead Hospice Center, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721; Haywood County Schools Foundation, 1230 North Main Street, Waynesville, NC 28786; or Clyde First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 356, Clyde, NC 28721. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to those who provided exceptional care and support, including the 7 West staff at Haywood-MedWest Hospital, Smoky Mountain Health and Rehabilitation Center, Haywood-Medwest Hospice, and Care Angels. Your kindness and compassion won't be forgotten.
