Bill George

Waynesville, Bill Chrest George, age 72, of S. Main Street, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital. A native and life-long resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Chrest A. and Cecelia Demetriou George. He was a graduate of Riverside Military Academy of Gainesville, Georgia. He enrolled and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before enlisting in the U.S. Marines Corps during the Vietnam Era. Returning from service, he graduated from Western Carolina University and began working for the Dayco Corporation, where he was employed for twelve years. Bill was co-owner of Industrial Chemical and Maintenance of Waynesville and was also active in real estate development. He loved to travel and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 43 years, Ann Page George; one daughter, Ashley George Papazahariou, and her husband, Herc, of Candler; a sister, Antonia Gonatos, of Tarpon Springs, Florida; one brother, Paul C. George, of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Georganna and Zach Papazahariou, of Candler; as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville with Father Michael Diavatis officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Smith, Bruce Davis, Rusty McClain, Ronnie Woodle, and Bill and Alan Harris. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
