Bill Mccord

Waynesville, William "Bill" Lucius McCord, Jr., age 83, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at MedWest Haywood. A native of Shelby, North Carolina, he had resided in Haywood County since 1980. He was the son of the late William Lucius McCord, Sr. and Lilly Parrish McCord, and he was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby McCord. Bill was a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the US Air Force, having served two tours in Vietnam. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1953 and was a member of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church. Bill worked for Titleist, Dunlop, and later retired from the Tommy Armour Golf Company. His two passions in life were flying and golf; those passions became his careers. He is survived by his wife, Dottie Jamison McCord; a daughter, Carrie Teague and her husband, Stan, of Charlotte; two sons, Jeff McCord and his wife, Monica, of Boca Raton, Florida and Bill McCord, III of Metairie, Louisiana; one sister, Libby Rahe and her husband, Bill, of Illinois; and six grandchildren, Samantha, Sydney and Sean Teague and Ryan, Katie, and Kevin McCord. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Long's Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Chuck Wilson, II and Reverend Kelley Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to Long's Chapel United Methodist Church Benevolence Fund, P.O.
