Waynesville, Billy Tyrone Bowles, age 68, passed away Friday, January 8, 2010. In death, he joins his beloved wife of 33 years, Gwyn, who passed away November 15, 2009. Billy was the son of the late Dorothy and Basil Bowles. He was born and raised in West Virginia. In his younger years, Billy was an avid thrill seeker. He was a skydiver instructor with over 1500 successful jumps. He also enjoyed traveling the United States, having visited over 40 states. Bill was an accomplished photographer. He owned and operated Bill's Frame, a professional photography and framing business, in Waynesville for many years. In addition, Bill also worked at WNC Paving as a truck driver. Bill was a gifted gunsmith and enjoyed "gun trading" immensely. He also had an amazing talent for working leather. He made many personalized gun holsters, belts, and guitar straps. Bill enjoyed picking the guitar with his grandson and spending time with his granddaughter, whom he lovingly referred to as "Princess". Bill is survived by his son, Joel Greene and his wife, Kathi; two grandchildren, Cody and Keri Greene, and long-time family friends, Neal and Diane Mills and Dan and Kete Jenkins. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church, 98 Elizabeth Chapel Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
