Billy Owen

Billy Cass Owen, age 74, died Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at Memorial Mission Hospital. He was a native of Johnson City, TN, as a child he moved to Rutherford County where he grew up. He retired from Burlington Industries in Burlington, NC with 21 years of service. Billy then retired to Haywood County 12 years ago. He was the son of Gladys Birchfield Owen of Candler formerly of Rutherfordton and the late Charlie Owen. He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church and a United States Navy veteran serving during the Korean conflict. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Burress Owen; two sons, Stephen Michael Owen and his wife, Andrea Capua, of Boone and Joseph Charles Owen of Asheville; and two grandchildren, Grace Capua Owen and Pia Cristina Owen as well as many other family members and faithful friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2006, at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Reverend Jerry Ensley and Reverend Aimee Wallis Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eliada Home for Children, P. O. Drawer 1708, Asheville, NC 28816 or to one's favorite charity.
