Billy Russell

Waynesville, Billy Vinson Russell, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 04, 2017 at Mission Hospital. A native of Haywood County he was the son of the late William Walter and Celia Massie Russell. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Wilde and Ruth Caldwell; two brothers, Walter and Mark Russell; and a nephew, Brent Hall. Billy was employed by A.C. Lawrence Leather Company and was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church. Billy was a hardworking husband, father, grandfather and farmer. He took great pride in his beautiful lawn and always enjoyed his family time. Billy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Myrtle Ellen Plemmons Russell; two sons, Michael Russell, and his wife, Linda and Gary Russell, and his wife, Debbie, all of Waynesville; four sisters, Irene Smathers, of Canton, Delma Sue Caldwell, Shelby Moore, both of Waynesville and Doris Hall, and her husband, Dennis, of Bethel; two brothers, Sam Russell, and his wife, Ruth, of Bethel and Bobby Russell, and his wife, Loretta, of Canton; three grandchildren, Jeremiah Russell, Afton Murray and Kayla Russell Cacicia; four great-grandchildren, Logan and Levi Russell, Halie and Norah Murray; and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to his extended family at DaVita Dialysis. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend John H. Swanger, III officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremiah and Kelly Russell, Randy Hall, Jeff Smith, Robby and Rusty Moore, Edwin Swanger and Nathan Murray.
