Billy Spake

Waynesville, Billy Joe Spake, 93, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at CarePartners Solace Center.

A native of Florida, he was a son of the late Elmer and Frances Spake.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, David and Wesley Spake; two sisters, Betty Mabrey and Dorothy Bowen; and two brothers, George and Jerry Spake.  Billy was the owner of Bill Spake Photography and was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church.  In his younger days he enjoyed playing softball up into his 50’s.  When he was 18 he and a friend joined the circus where he did a trampoline act and was a ventriloquist.  Billy was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching baseball.

Billy is survived by his wife, Millie Spake; two sons, Gregory Spake, and his wife, Theresa, of Calabash, North Carolina and Randall Spake, and his wife, Deborah, of Hudson, Ohio; four grandchildren, Kimberly, Sean and Ryan Spake and Shane Baker.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2023 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend John Swanger, III and Reverend Mark Golden officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Road Baptist Church, Building Fund, 2701 Soco Road, Maggie Valley, NC 28751.

The care of Mr. Spake has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.
