Blanche Burnette

Canton-Blanche Cody Burnette, age 81, of 147 J.R. Sayles Road, died Thursday, March 13, 2003 at her residence.

Born on July 18, 1921 in Graham County, she was the daughter of the late Boyd Clinton Cody and Stella Stiles Cody, and lived most of her life in Haywood County. She was also preceded in death by her first husband of 40 years, Eldon Medford Burnette, who died in 1985, and her second husband, Dee Sharpe who died in 2002. She retired from Haywood Community College in 1977 where she was a bookkeeper and secretary. She was one of the first two employees of Haywood Technical Institute. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she was a faithful servant of God and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.

She is survived by a daughter, Brenda B. Cathey, of Canton; three grandchildren,
Laura Hart and her husband, Walter, of Charlotte, Robin Bennett, and her husband, Mark, of Loganville, Georgia, and John C. Cathey, of Canton; one great grandson, Andrew Bennett, of Loganville, Georgia; four sisters, Betty Devere, of Berkeley, CA, Margaret Biddix of Waynesville, Joyce Hale of Canton, and Jean ''Zoolie'' Davis of Maggie Valley; four brothers, Bill and Bruce Cody of Waynesville, Bob Cody of Snellsville, GA, and Mike Cody of Athens, GA; an uncle, O.L. Stiles, of Waynesville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Reverend Heath Davis and Reverend James R. Burress officiating. Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, prior to the services, at the church.
