Waynesville, Blanche Evelyn Cagle Caldwell, age 88, of Ned Cove Road, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at The Homestead. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Fannie Rhodarmer Cagle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd T. Caldwell, who died in 2003; one brother, Norman Willard Cagle; one son, Carmel Floyd Caldwell; and a granddaughter, Nancy Marie Evans. She was a former employee of Dayco, retiring after 30 years service and was a member of Hemphill Baptist Church. Blanche enjoyed sewing, canning, and cooking and was known for her hard work. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Evans and her husband, Arthur, and Sharon Smith and her husband, Jerry; one son, Dwight Caldwell and his wife, Melissa; and three grandchildren, Ashley and Dave Caldwell and Donna Evans. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012 in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Ted Reeves and Reverend Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby, Claude and Benny Messer, James Noland and Bill Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Sanders, Burl Harris and Leon Allison. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to NC Alzheimer's Association, 1305 Navaho Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27609 or Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice, 560 Leroy George Drive, Clyde, NC 28721. A special thanks to Arthur Evans, Jerry Smith, and the neighbors of Windy Hill Drive for their help during Mrs. Caldwell's illness.
