Waynesville, Marian Blanche Sanford Medford, age 84, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital. Born in Union County, South Carolina, she had lived in Haywood County most of her life. The daughter of the late Gordon Breckenridge Sanford and Pearl McCracken Sanford, she was preceded in death by siblings, Anna, Frank, Jack and Robert Sanford. She was a dedicated Cub Scout, Girl Scout, and Boy Scout Den Mother and Leader and was also an active member of Long's Chapel United Methodist Church. Blanche was a wonderful mother and to her grandchildren, she was the epitome of what a grandmother should be. She was intensely loyal and devoted to the success of her children and grandchildren's lives. She is survived by her children, Lynn Medford Hawkins of Greeneville, Tennessee, Cecile Knox Medford of Clyde, and Gary Medford and his wife, Angie, of Waynesville; one sister, Beatrice Winchester, also of Waynesville. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Lt. Col. Robert Cecil Hawkins, Rhonda Hawkins Myers, Kevin Lane Moore, and Skyler Taryn Medford and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013 at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park with Reverend Dr. Charles W. Wilson, II officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Long's Chapel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 459, Lake Junaluska, NC 28745.
