Blanche Oliver

Canton-Blanche Pressley Oliver, age 89, of Cruso Road, died on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at her residence. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late David H. and Nan Warren Pressley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Von Oliver who died in 1995; five brothers, S.C. Talley, Howard, William Lee, and R.O. Pressley and one sister, French Inman. She retired from Dayco with 25 years service as an Curve Hose Inspector. Blanche enjoyed quilting, crocheting with friends, watching the Tarheels and reading the Asheville Citizen and Mountaineer papers. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, J.D. Oliver and his wife, Linda, and Douglas Oliver and his wife, Patricia, all of Canton; one grandchild, Jalinda Wright and her husband, Alan; two great- grandchildren, Emeri and Maddox Wright and three sister-in laws, Luella Pressley, of Candler, Louise Pressley, of White Pine, TN and Evelyn Pressley, of Canton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2008 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Reverend Perry Brindley officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church and at other times at Blanche's residence. Memorials may be made to Lottie Moon Missionary Christmas offering, 261 Dix Creek Road, Canton, NC 28716. Wells Funeral Home of Canton is in charge of arrangements.
