Canton – Bobby Ray Russell, age 76, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Silver Bluff Nursing Home in Canton.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Walter Russell and Celia Massie Russell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Russell and Ruth Russell Caldwell; and three brothers, Billy Russell, Walter Russell Jr., and J. Mark Russell. Bobby was born July 17, 1940 and graduated from Bethel High School in 1960. He worked as an auxiliary policeman for the Canton Police Department and Hardee's in Canton for many years. He retired from B.A.S.F. after more than 20 years as a security guard. Bobby was a people person and made many friends. He loved going to The Community Kitchen to spend time with his friends and loved his "50's" music. His favorite pastime was sitting on the porch watching the birds and his "pet groundhogs".
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Loretta Young Russell, of Canton; one brother, Samuel Russell and his wife, Ruth, of Bethel; four sisters, Irene Smathers, of Canton, Delma Sue Caldwell, of Waynesville, Shelby Moore, of Hazelwood, and Doris Hall and her husband, Dennis, of Cruso; many nieces and nephews; and his dog and good friend "Miley".
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 17, 2017 in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Dean and Reverend Chris Jennings officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
Bobby will be missed by the ones that knew and loved him.
