Bobby Swanger

Waynesville, Bobby Joe Swanger, age 65, of Cowan Street, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at his home. A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Butler Wiley and Ruth Boone Swanger and was also preceded in death by one sister, Betty Powell. He was a machinist employed at Dayco for 28 years and was later employed as an instructor in the Machine Tool Technology Department at Haywood Community College. Bobby was an active member of Allens Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee, a Sunday School Teacher, RA Director, and youth leader. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren and also enjoyed being outdoors hunting with his son. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Marie Childers Swanger; two sons, Stephen Swanger of Waynesville and Bobby Lucas Swanger of the home; a daughter, Laura Hart, also of Waynesville; one sister, Shirley Swanger James and her husband, Freddie, of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Wiley J. Swanger and Jessica Hart; two great grandchildren, Makenzie and Kelvie Hart; three nephews, Scotty Powell and Jeff and Freddie Dean James; and two special cousins, Roger and Kenneth Boone. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Allens Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Eddie Deitz officiating. Entombment will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Mausoleum. Serving as pallbearers will be Alan Arrington, Bruce Hipps, Richard Lacy, Wayne King, Randall Dills, Bruce Sutton, Harold Rogers, and Dennis Early. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Allens Creek Baptist Church Capital Campaign Fund, 549 Allens Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28786.
