Brenda Valerie Norton Grindstaff, 72, entered Heaven on February 13, 2021.
She was born in Marshall, NC to the late Fred Douglas and Maeomie McDevitt Norton. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Michael Dennis Grindstaff who died in 2009; sister, Rosa Lee Norton Sams and brothers, Mack Norton, Dederick Norton and Frederick Norton.
Brenda was a 1966 graduate of North Buncombe High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She retired from Mission St. Josephs Health Systems.
A member of Jonestown Baptist Church, Brenda enjoyed singing, worshiping and the fellowship of her friends and family. Even in her final days, she always thought of others and remembered them in prayer.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura Haug (Harley) of Mill Spring, NC; son, John Neil Grindstaff Dillon of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Karri Hamlin (John) of Franklin, NC, Joshua Debord of Asheville, NC and Kristen Masters of Mill Spring, NC; four loving sisters, Alma Lee Norton Bucker of Marshall, NC, Gertrude Norton Rice and Patricia Norton Chandler, both of Asheville, NC and Alana Kay Norton Burleson (Joe) of Chase City, VA and many nieces, nephews and special friends. Also survived by great-grandchildren, whom she adored and always wanted to know and see pictures of what was going on in their lives. One mention of Kali and Mia of Mill Spring, NC or Harper and Cash of Franklin, NC and her face lit up.
A graveside service will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1 Chapel of Faith Drive, Candler, NC.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Ana Hicks for her stellar and compassionate care and to Four Seasons Elizabeth House Hospice team of Doctors, Nurse’s and CNA’s for the comfort of knowing that mom received the absolute best care available and was at such peace in her final days.
The care of Mrs. Grindstaff has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Home of Candler.
