Clyde-Brigadier James Paige Henry, age 84, of 5 Mountain Mission Road, Shelton Laurel Community, died Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
A native of Virginia, he had resided in Haywood County for many years. He was the son of the late William J. and Betty Tomblin Henry. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Ward Henry, who died in 1997. He was commissioned as a Salvation Army officer in 1941. He served in the Salvation Army Corps in North Carolina, Virginia, and Atlanta, Georgia and for the past 25 years, he served as National Evangelist.
He is survived by his wife of six years, Beulah Sutton Henry; a daughter, Beverly Leidy, and her husband, John of Goldsboro, NC; a son, Sam Henry, and his wife Nancy of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister, Mary Lowrey, of Charlottesville, Virginia; five grandchildren; one great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2004 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes & Cremation Services with Major James Allison and Major Vernon Jewitt officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:45 until 3:45 p.m. on Saturday prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, January 12, 2004.
