Brownlow Conner

Waynesville-Brownlow "Brownie" Conner, age 92, died Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospice. A native and life long resident of North Carolina, he was a son of the late Mark and Mintie Wood Conner, and the husband of the late Pearl Norris of 73 years, who died October 15, 1999. He was also preceded in death by four children, two brothers and two sisters. He was employed by Norris concrete as a finisher for 40 years and retired in 1979. Mr. Conner was a member of Rocky Branch Baptist Church and was a very active bear hunter, sportsman and loved gardening. One of his favorite sayings was "the more the merrier". He loved his family dearly. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. He is survived by seven daughters, Ora Lee Roger, and her husband, Joe Bob of Waynesville, Maxine McClure, and Lucille Noland, and her husband Bud all of Iron Duff, Barbara McElreath, and her husband Earnest of Canton, Sheila Whitehouse, and her husband, Jimmy of Grover SC, Mary Ruth Messer of Waynesville and Carolyn Clark, and her husband Weldon of Lake Junaluska, two sons, Enlow Conner, and his wife Nina of Bethel and Mark David Conner of Waynesville, one sister, Florence Davis of Asheville, one brother, Willie Conner of Laeger , West Virginia, 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Virgil Holloway officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
